A page from Mary Wheeler's research with a photograph of the starboard side of the sternwheeler JOE FOWLER (Way #3031). According to Way's Packet Directory, 1848-1983, the JOE FOWLER, a sternwheel packet boat (182 x 31.6 x 5.5) was built in 1888 by Howard Steamboat Company in Jeffersonville, IN. She was build by the Fowler Family of Paducah, KY and the Evansville-Paducah trade and is mentioned in a number of the Roustabout songs collected by Mary Wheeler. The "Jumpin' Joe" as the Roustabouts called her, later ran out of Parkersburg, W.VA and Evansville, IN before being converted into the CRESCENT which burned November 17, 1920 on the Green River.
