The name “Nagel” has been associated with watches and jewelry in Paducah (KY) since 1865, when the first William Nagel began a watchmaking trade inside a Paducah furniture store. According to an article in the Paducah Sun newspaper, this Nagel moved his business into a building on the corner of Broadway and Third in 1886, and here it stayed for the next 96 years. When Harry Meyer married Nagel’s daughter Minnie about 1900, the jewelry store became Nagel and Meyer. The business—a Paducah institution-- stayed in the Nagel family throughout its 117-year history, and it was a family decision to close in 1982.
