Starboard side of the sidewheeler J.S. at the Paducah Marine Ways. According to Way's Packet Directroy, 1848-1983, the J.S. (Way #2882) was a sidewheel excursion boat with a wooden hull (264.7 x 42 x 6.8) built in Dubuque, Iowa in 1896. Originally named the QUINCY, it was bought by Streckfus Steamers, Inc., St. Louis, MO and turned into a "deluxe" excursion boat. It was dismantled at St. Louis in the winter of 1938-1939.On the back of this photograph Mary Wheeler wrote, "Streckfus."
