Former roustabout Tom Wall and a mule. According to U.S. Census records Thomas Wall was born in Tennessee around 1863. He worked as a fireman on steamboats, living in Paducah with his wife Florence. The couple lived the majority of the early twentieth century at 1226 Madison and 1317 Monroe in Paducah, KY. Tom Wall appears in Mary Wheeler's book Steamboatin' Days on pages 25-27 and 43-46 and is credited for the songs God Dog My Lousy Soul and John Gilbert. Ms. Wheeler notes that Tom worked on the boats SILVER CLOUD (Way 5110), W.A. JOHNSON (Way 5618), JOHN GILBERT (Way #3066) and CITY OF PADUCAH (Way #1116).
