Description:
Susan worked for the Wheeler family when Mary Wheeler was a child. She also worked as a maid and cook on Packet boats of the Tennessee River. When Mary Wheeler was a child, Susan took Mary down to the river and upon a steamboat. Mary later wrote about this account in her book Steamboatin' Days. Susan appears in Steamboatin' Days on pages 75-77 and is given credit for the song Is Yo Lamps Gone Out.
