Description:
The hotel was built in 1909 by Maggie Steed, a daughter of a former slave, who saw the need for a black hotel in segregated Paducah. Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, Ike and Tina Turner, Duke Ellington, Thurgood Marshall, B. B. King and Jesse Owens all stayed at the hotel. The hotel has been restored since this photograph was taken and stands now as a non-profit and museum at 724 Oscar Cross Dr.
