Description "JUNCITON OHIO AND TENNESSEE RIVERS, PADUCAH, KENTUCKY. Gen. George Rogers Clark landed on Owen's Island, opposite foot of Kentucky Avenue, June 28, 1778, enroute to capture Kaskaskia, Cahokia and Vincennes. The first white settlers came in 1821, and in 1827, Paducah was named for friendly Indian Chief Paduke, by General William Clark (of the Lewis and Clark expedition), who was the second white owner of this island.
